how do we tell if it’s wartime or peacetime?

The period of 2001-2007 was known as a time of war

…when an out-of-control war-monger was in the White House and every 5 1/2 hours, a US soldier was killed in undeclared wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and illegal military actions in Yemen, Philippines, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Georgia, Djibouti, Haiti, Pakistan, Lebanon, Somalia, and countless other covert actions.

From 1993-2000, we were supposedly at peace

…when a US soldier was only killed every 9 hours in mostly illegal military actions in Iraq, Somalia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Haiti, Liberia, Central African Republic, Albania, Congo, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Tanzania, Afghanistan, East Timor, Serbia, Yemen, and countless other covert actions.

Our supposed time of peace doesn’t even mention the hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties and the sickness and death caused by the destruction of infrastructure.

Looking forward, it looks like 2009+ is going to be at least as bloody as the Clinton years, if not bloodier than the Bush years, as we have active military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, and countless other countries.
